MusicAbility embraces the unique and life-enhancing potential of music to stimulate a broad spectrum of educational, creative and health benefits within the community. Our mission is to use music as a catalyst for the development of personal abilities, cultural awareness and participation whilst generating social, psychological and physical integration.

Our provision falls into five main strands:

Bridging the gap between local aspiration and the national/international level of expectation for those hoping to be the professional musicians of tomorrow. This Includes supporting talented individuals through mentoring and signposting to providers of financial awards and other relevant services.

Developing a well rounded, creative mindset for all, particularly young people, through the many benefits that music can offer including musical proficiency, personal awareness, and the uplifting experience of teamwork in action. Principally delivered through a network of string orchestras and occasional music courses.

Offering bespoke music psychotherapy programmes to individuals, families and groups, generating social, psychological and physical integration. Delivered largely in the community through a wide range of partnerships with organisations supporting people with specific health needs. Also includes providing supervision to other music therapists and supporting student placements for trainee therapists.

Developing new and creative approaches to the twin challenges facing instrumental teachers – lack of training and limited opportunities. Includes supporting the work of young musicians from Cornwall who would like to return to the region to teach and providing professional development opportunities for peripatetic teachers.

Promoting audience understanding and connection to music through active and engaging musical concert presentation.  Currently delivered in partnership with Concerts Penzance & Golowan Festival.
